Welcome to the Feline Fedora!

At a young age, my parents instilled the importance of giving back to the community. I remember summer volunteer opportunities working at local aid offices sorting clothes and building food bags for those in need. I carried that heart of generosity into my adult years. My love of animals manifested a desire to delve into the realm of protection and welfare. For over a decade, I wore many hats: Animal Care & Control Officer; Vice President of a Kitten rescue; full-time kitten foster; wildlife-rescue cage cleaner; and laundress for the county animal shelter. These roles reinforced my passion for protecting those who could not protect themselves.

Over the past couple of years, I had to make several decisions that took me away from what I loved. I had to pull away from fostering to go back to school. Afterward, I got a better job in the big city, but became isolated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Trapped in my new apartment, I needed something to do. Something to, not only, keep me busy, but provide an outlet for my cooped-up creativity plus desire for giving.

The Feline Fedora started out as a failed Etsy store that sold loom-knitted hats made by my mother ("Made by Mam"). Unfortunately, there was zero interest and no visitors for months. I was dejected and ended up shutting the store down. On our second attempt, we tried our lot at my college's craft fair. It was a complete disaster! It wasn't advertised; there were only 12 booths; and it was attended by many poor college students who weren't really interested in buying a hand knitted hat.

So, the Feline Fedora sat in a limbo. We weren't sure what we wanted to do or where we wanted to go, but I didn't want to give up. I still wanted to create. I still wanted to give back. So, we are trying again. This time with a little more thought and care.

The Feline Fedora is being reborn as a "Craft to Fund" organization. We have donated our materials and countless hours of time to build an inventory of hand crafted home décor. We strive to use as much recycled, upcycled, and reusable items that we can source: such as wood scraps; discounted fabrics/remnants; and leftover ornaments that would otherwise end up at a landfill post-season. Please tune into this blog to see our progress!

A portion of our proceeds will go to a charitable organization that helps and heals animals in need.

Our first year goal is to attend as many local area Christmas craft fairs as we can manage. We are holding on hope to make it into the 53rd Annual Christmas Craft Show in Aiken, SC (our prestigious local craft show). [The application still pending. So fingers crossed!].

I’ve always upheld the philosophy of give what you can, openly, honestly, and without any hesitation. The Feline Fedora is a culmination of that philosophy and my desire to make a difference in the lives of pets and animals everywhere. We at The Feline Fedora are tipping our hat to all the cool cats and hot dogs.

Thank you Bob Barker for always reminding us to take care of our pets! Rest in Loving Memory.
